CALCÁRIO 2003
Varieties: Baga (100%).
Soil: Chalky Clay.
Age of vines: average of 80 years old.
Region: Bairrada.
Climate: Atlantic.
Vinification: Fermentation in oak vats under 28ºC with manual punch down. Considering that the baga grape variety has a good amount of tannins we decided to ferment this wine in oak vats, creating a natural micro-oxygenation, re-creating an old tradition.
Matured 50% in second used casks, 50% in new French oak barrels. Bottled in January 2005.
Ageing Capacity: The amount of tannins and natural acidity present in Baga wines in Bairrada give these wines a good capacity to age in a bottle. This is why Bairrada wines are known for their ageing capacity.
